Comms Rooms

General

Please refer to the Datacomms guidelines for detailed information. This section is to be read in conjunction with that document.

Generally, no audio visual equipment is to be installed in Network racks without a signed exception, approved by the Networks Manager and AV Manager

All AV racks should be at least 600mm wide and 800mm deep. Racks can be of any height up to and including 48 RU.

Network ties are located in the top RUs and are numbered AVx-yy where x is the patch panel number and yy is the outlet number. Ie: 2 AV racks, the first has 48 ties, the second has 24. Rack 1 would have 2 x 24 way patchbays, numbered AV1 and AV2. Rack 3 would have 1 patchbay numbered AV3. Outlet 6 on AV3 would be labelled AV3-06

Rack doors should be of mesh construction with the rear door being of split design.

AV Racks do not conform to hot-isle/cold-isle design, as such there is no requirement to blank spare RU.

No branding plates are to be installed.

Rack Layout

Standard Layout

As a general guidance. Schroff frames or similar vertical mounting frames should be used to increase density. Equipment should be grouped by room, not by type (ie do not put all echo360's down the bottom, AV bridges above that etc).

All items must be labelled with the room they relate to/DNS information.

Data cabling from the AV ties shall be direct to the equipment. There shall not be an intermediate patch bay.

Equipment shall be affixed to shelves with velcro, not screwed to trays

Cables should not be over-dressed - a focus on neat installation with ease of serviability, rather than "Instagram worthy" rack dressing.
